Post covid 19- 2020, the Curly Coated Retriever has experienced an ever-increasing low number of litters and puppies. We currently guestimate that there are currently less than 500 breeding individuals worldwide. This is literally less curlies than there are Panda Bears. This low number has likewise contributed to a diminishing gene pool of less than 75 percent genetic loss. This has put the breed even further towards the brink extinction. An increasing genetic loss and low numbers make it very difficult as well as costly to breed. We have limited success with Artificial insemination which often results in one to 3 puppies if it is successful. We further estimate that one in 4 Breedings actually result in litters.
Due to such low numbers, there can be a national current waiting list for a puppy is sometimes 2 to 5 years in the USA and even longer in other countries. Occasionally we have puppies available immediately or can add you to the list for a puppy in the future.
A puppy from Tyneside will cost you $3,500.00. We give priority on the waiting list to those who are willing and able to help us in preservation by agreeing contractually to keep stud dogs intact, to health test and breed females or send them back to use for testing and whelping.
We do our very best to breed beautiful, healthy, outstanding puppies, putting a lot of love, time and socialization into each and every one of them. Therefore, we are very conscientious and selective about who we allow to own them, and who becomes a part of the Tyneside family for the next, hopefully, 12 to 15 years.
Tyneside Curly Coated Retriever puppies come microchipped along with a health guarantee and lifetime contract of return. We do all parental health clearances but sometimes mother nature does not care. Provided that you adhere to our required method of care, we will replace your puppy if at the appropriate age of testing, it does not pass the minimal hip, eye and heart clearances. We also require your written agreement that the dog can never be given, sold or re homed without our permission and/or first right of refusal.
We feel a deep responsibility to each and every curly coat that we produce. Therefore, at any time, for any reason, at any stage of the dog’s life, it may be returned to us.
